May 1st is the French Labour Day holiday.
This year, it fell on a Thursday, so I decided to take Friday off and turn it into a four-day weekend.
I’ve been to San Sebastián a handful of times, but this time I wanted to spend two full days there—just enough time to enjoy some great pintxos, listen to the sound of the waves, and not feel rushed.
For this trip, I decided to travel light. I brought my trusty Nikon FM2n, the 55mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor AIS, and some RPX 25 film. I could’ve taken the F5 and the Zeiss lenses, but they would have destroyed my back. I’m starting to realize that a smaller setup really makes a difference.
RPX 25 is essentially Aviphot 80. I usually shoot it at ISO 50 and develop it in Rodinal 1+100 for 1 hour. That combination seems to give me the best of both worlds: fine grain and great tonal range.

On the first day, I parked my bike and wandered around the city. I was glad I hadn’t brought too much gear—traveling light made everything more enjoyable. Besides, I really enjoy using the fully mechanical FM2n. Just three dials: ISO, shutter speed, and aperture. Simple, intuitive, and all I need.

On my way back from walking to the very end of the bay, I came across a basketball game and managed to take a shot just before the ball entered the hoop.
On Sunday, I decided to visit the aquarium to avoid the rain. Amazingly, one of my shots turned out pretty well, despite how dim it was inside

Unfortunately I have one unfinished roll. I had taken several shots of the bay I entend to stitch together. I will update the blog post when done…

Update: Below is the stitched panorama of the bay
